Reference and Instruction Librarian, Purchase College

The Purchase College Library at Purchase College State University of New York seeks a Reference and Instruction Librarian to provide reference services for on-campus and remote users. Responsibilities will include participating in an active instructional program, developing information literacy initiatives and assessment tools for on-campus and distance learning and conducting outreach to faculty and departments. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be responsible planning, implementing, and publicizing library services in innovative ways, participating in collection development, updating and maintaining some of the library’s social media outlets (blog, Facebook page, etc.) and serving on library and college committees.

Required Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must have an ALA-accredited MLS, MLIS or equivalent degree and must be able to work some evenings and weekend hours.

Additionally, candidates are required to possess:

A knowledge of and enthusiasm for the integration of new technologies into the delivery of information services; an understanding of popular and emerging instructional design tools and techniques; and evidence of leadership ability, professional initiative, and flexibility.

A demonstrated understanding of the concepts, goals, and methods of information literacy instruction and of scholarly publishing issues and trends. Candidate should also have the ability to manage a diverse workload and to work effectively in a collegial setting with the willingness to undertake library and college committee responsibilities, professional development and research and scholarship.

Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

One year of experience in providing reference and instruction services in an academic library setting.

Experience with or demonstrated understanding of assessment methodologies.

We offer a salary of $51,000, a faculty rank of Senior Assistant Librarian (12 month) and a tenure track appointment with excellent benefits.
