Coordinator, Student Multimedia Design Center Services, University of Delaware

Description: The University of Delaware Library seeks a motivated, service-oriented, professional librarian to serve as Coordinator, Student Multimedia Design Center Services. The position reports to the Head, Student Multimedia Design Center, and works in a rapidly changing, technology-rich public service environment to coordinate general outreach and instruction activities related to multimedia technology and assess departmental needs. Work collaboratively with other librarians, faculty, and information technology staff to provide instructional support for students on multimedia projects and coursework. Provide initial technical support for the Center, including troubleshooting software, hardware, and equipment issues and the design and maintenance of the departmental web site. Develop departmental staff training and enrichment activities to practice and learn new multimedia technologies. Provide direct assistance to library users at a busy service desk with: computer hardware, software applications, and equipment; microforms, maps, and CD-ROM collections; scanner/copiers and portable media equipment; and register transactions. Assist the Head, Student Multimedia Design Center in overall departmental operations and program planning, including recommending multimedia equipment and software for purchase and recommending and implementing new policies, procedures, and services related to multimedia.

Qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program. Demonstrated experience with current multimedia production capabilities in Windows and/or Macintosh operating systems using software such as the iLife suite, the Adobe Creative Suite, and Final Cut Pro. Successful experience working with university faculty, students and staff in an academic setting. Ability to use technology to meet instructional and public service objectives. Video creation equipment troubleshooting experience preferred. Excellent oral and written communications skills to enable effective instruction to groups related to the use of multimedia in higher education. Strong public service orientation. Ability to create and maintain web sites using CSS, HTML 5, and Javascript. Knowledge of trends in librarianship and digital multimedia creation in order to effectively serve the student population. Ability to supervise and train student staff and establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals in a busy service environment.

Salary: Appointment will be at the level of Assistant Librarian (level 13) or Senior Assistant Librarian (level 14) with rank and salary dependent upon experience and qualifications. Assistant Librarian rank is entry level for academic librarians with less than 3 years of professional experience.

Description: The University of Delaware Library seeks a reference librarian to deliver responsive, innovative information services in the health sciences including nursing. The position reports to the Head, Reference Department, and works in a rapidly changing, technology-rich environment as a team member with thirteen other reference librarians to provide general reference and instructional service to the University community. Reference service is provided at the Morris Library Reference Desk, and via text, chat and email. As liaison to the faculty and students in the College of Health Sciences, develops and delivers information and instructional services supporting curricular and research needs. Responsible for collection development in the health sciences; other areas may be assigned depending on institutional priorities. Utilizes web-based technologies including the Sakai course management system and other new state-of-the-art technologies to create interactive instructional programs. Provides individualized assistance to students, faculty and staff in the health sciences. Designs web pages and instructional guides. Responsibilities include some weekend and evening hours.

Qualifications: ALA accredited graduate library degree. Experience working with print and electronic resources in the health and/or life sciences. Excellent instructional skills. Excellent computer and internet skills including web design experience; excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated initiative and flexibility in adapting to change. Strong commitment to public service. Ability to develop and to deliver discipline-related instructional sessions for faculty and students. Teaching/instruction experience and reference experience in an academic or health science library highly desirable.

Two Library Special Collections Positions: University of Delaware

Qualifications: Both positions under the Head of Special Collections Department require ALA accredited graduate library degree. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of productivity and accuracy. Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail. Good interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with supervisors and peers and work cooperatively in a team environment, both within the Special Collections Department and within the Library.

#5141 Assistant/Senior Assistant Librarian, Special Collections Department, University of Delaware Library. This position serves as the primary public services librarian in Special Collections. Responsibilities include: coordinating public service activities, providing reference service, coordinating reading room supervision and user services, providing user education and orientation for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and other researchers while maintaining regular communication with the Coordinator, Library Instruction in the Library Reference Department, and supervision of one full-time support staff member and student assistants as needed. This position is responsible for coordination, planning, and installation of library exhibitions, including online exhibitions, and shares responsibility for curating exhibitions. Additional duties relating to manuscripts and other formats and collection development may be assigned as warranted. The successful applicant will also contribute to Special Collections efforts to expand access to its holdings through the Internet and other digital initiatives. The position provides an excellent opportunity for a creative and dynamic applicant to lead the reference, instruction, and outreach programs of the Special Collections Department of the University of Delaware Library.

Additional Qualifications: Required: Experience in Special Collections with a library that has a research-level Special Collections. Knowledge of specialized reference sources for rare books, manuscripts, and archives. Preferred: Two years professional experience in Special Collections with a library that has a research-level Special Collections. Special Collections reference and public service experience in a research environment. Demonstrated ability to teach effectively; experience in curating onsite and online exhibitions; supervisory experience; familiarity with online bibliographic tools, technologies and Website design and creation. Salary: Expect to hire at the Assistant or Senior Assistant Librarian level, depending upon qualifications and experience.

#5140 Assistant Librarian, Special Collections Department, University of Delaware Library. This position is responsible for coordinating collection management activities, including preservation for rare books and printed materials within Special Collections, supervision of student assistants, and/or, as warranted, processing manuscripts and other formats and/or collection development. The successful applicant will also participate in Special Collections public service responsibilities, including reference, user education, and exhibition activities. The successful applicant will also contribute to Special Collections efforts to expand access to its holdings through the Internet and other digital initiatives. The position offers an excellent opportunity for an entry level librarian with an interest in special collections librarianship to participate fully in a broad range of activities in an academic library Special Collections Department.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience and/or training with rare books, manuscripts, and archival materials, supervisory experience, familiarity with digital technology as it relates to special collections, and experience with library and archival web applications and standards. Salary: Expect to hire at the entry level Assistant Librarian level.
