POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Long Island University Library, C.W. Post Campus, seeks an Instructional Design Librarian to support student learning by working in partnership with library and teaching faculty to apply learning theories and technology to develop, design, implement, and maintain general and course-specific library instruction materials, including but not limited to online learning objects and instructional modules. The successful candidate will identify the information needs of both on-campus and blended/distance learning students, facilitate the integration and use of library literacy materials in course management systems and other online environments, and assess student learning outcomes. The successful candidate must be able to learn, critically evaluate and troubleshoot new technologies related to online teaching and learning to meet changing user needs, and support and train librarians and staff in the use of such technologies. The librarian will also develop and conduct online and in-person library instruction sessions, and may serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments. Scheduled hours at the reference desk, including some evening and weekend work, are required.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively and closely with the Coordinator of Instruction and the Instructional Technology Librarian to support the teaching and learning initiatives of the library. The Instructional Design Librarian is a tenure-track, faculty status position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited library school and at least three years of public service, including instructional experience, in an academic library. Knowledge of applications and technologies used in higher education instruction, including course management systems. Coursework, degree, or experience in instructional design and/or educational technology, including knowledge of basic instructional design concepts (ADDIE, etc.). Demonstrated interest in scholarly communication initiatives. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and users. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Ability to achieve tenure through effective job performance, service and scholarship.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Additional graduate degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or related field. Demonstrated knowledge of production tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Audacity, Camtasia). Familiarity with ACRL Standards for Information Literacy.

SPECIAL INFORMATION: Preference will be given to a candidate with a second subject Master’s degree or 30 additional graduate credits, and the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends. This is a reopening for a position which was previously advertised as Electronic Resources and Distance Learning Librarian. Candidates who applied previously are still under consideration and do not need to reapply.
