Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree. Two years of full time library work experience. Demonstrated ability to coordinate the borrowing and lending of physical and digital library collections through library circulation operations, interlibrary loan, and document delivery services. Two years minimum full time supervisory experience. Demonstrated knowledge of current technology trends as they apply to the design and delivery of information services. Experience with integrated library automation systems. Demonstrated record of ongoing professional development and contribution. Ability to take initiative, prioritize, meet deadlines and manage change. Demonstrated ability to provide customer service. Strong understanding of copyright principles. Responsibilities & Requirements: The Stony Brook University Libraries seek a user-oriented and innovative librarian to join its team. The Head of Circulation Services and Interlibrary Loan will explore new models of access and library collection sharing, incorporate emerging technologies, analyze workflows, and provide services that are responsive to the information needs of the university in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment. This position participates in the setting of policies in consultation with other Department Heads, Associate Directors, and the Dean and Director of Libraries. The Head of Circulation Services and Interlibrary Loan will be responsible for the following:

  • Direct supervision of staffing for the Circulation Services and Interlibrary Loan Departments for the Health Sciences Library and the West Campus Libraries.
  • Supervise student assistants in all of assigned areas, as required.
  • Supervise management of the Main Stacks, including circulating materials and serials processing, as appropriate.
  • Streamline electronic delivery of library resources.
  • Set policy standards for loan periods, fines and billing for overdue, missing, and lost items.
  • Identify appropriate technological advancements to implement improved circulation and material delivery services.
  • Deliver reports detailing borrowing and lending trends.
  • Provide and ensure superior customer service.
  • Generate financial reports of expenditures and revenue related to interlibrary loan, document delivery, and circulation services.
  • Compile and maintain statistical reports for interlibrary loan, document delivery, and circulation policies and procedures.
  • Serve as Copyright Clearance Center librarian representative for the campus.
  • Communicate and consult with campus legal counsel regarding fair use and copyright compliance in library material requests and use.
  • Provide specialized information delivery support as needed and by appointment.
  • Participate in library information literacy and research support activities.
  • Design and collaborate with other librarians to produce web-based research guides and tutorials.
  • Utilize social networks and other technologies to create awareness about library services and resources.
  • Take on collection development duties, act as a library subject specialist, and serve as a departmental liaison for academic departments.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty to assist them with document delivery instruction, including designing effective training tools and user education.
  • Participate in library-wide activities and serve on library and university committees.
  • Participate in and contribute to professional organizations and scholarly activities.
  • Engage in library and professional development activities.
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned.

Special Notes: This is a tenure track position. Faculty rank and salary dependent upon qualifications and experience. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible. Some evenings and weekend work will be required.

Part Time Instruction Librarian, Adelphi University Swirbul Library, Garden City Campus

(Approximately 20 hours a week)


RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Dean of University Libraries and working closely with the Coordinator of Instructional Services and the library faculty of the Garden City campus, the Part Time Instruction Librarian’s responsibilities support the University's goal of developing information literate students. The incumbent participates in all aspects of the Library’s information literacy programs, providing bibliographic instruction in the Freshman Experience Program, course related instructional sessions for undergraduate subject specialties, and graduate level courses in subject areas such as Education, Nursing and Social Work. May assist library faculty with instructional design for their courses and may provide scheduled reference service. The incumbent works a flexible schedule of up to 20 hours per week.

REQUIREMENTS: MLS from an ALA-accredited program. Flexible work schedule during the fall and spring semesters to accommodate some evening and weekend teaching assignments. Ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of faculty, students and staff. Highly Preferred: Experience teaching library instruction classes for undergraduate and graduate students. Desirable: Experience creating instructional and information materials using Libguides and a working knowledge of applications such as Camtasia, Captivate, or Survey Monkey.

Visual Arts Librarian

Required qualifications include an MLS and recent experience in the visual arts disciplines.

Milne Library Business Manager (revised) - SUNY Geneseo

Milne Library at SUNY Geneseo seeks a full time Business Manager to be responsible for the implementation of programmatic and administrative matters involving library budget planning, monitoring, procurement, facilities, and collections. The position has delegated responsibility for liaison with campus offices and external contacts on behalf of the Director of Milne Library.

The library has 30 faculty and staff members (full time equivalent), a budget of over two million dollars, and serves about 5,500 students and 265 faculty.

Specific roles and duties of the Business Manager include the following:

Administrative and Budget Management (40%): >Supervises one full-time Administrative Assistant. >Works directly with Director of Milne Library on library administration and library projects, including facility planning, evaluation of services, learning environment, etc. >Develops, prepares, and maintains library budget. This position has major programmatic responsibility for the library budget and is responsible for purchases, internal accounting and management of expenditures related to all library operations. >Actively participates in the Library Management Team.

Personnel HR & Policies Management (20%): >Works with College Human Resource (HR) office to manages all files, administrative policies and forms for library personnel. >Assists with the employment process of staff, including interviewing, hiring, training. Makes recommendations concerning the processes for evaluation, promotion, and terminations. >Coordinates execution of annual staff reviews and faculty/professional staff annual reports.

Outreach and Development Officer (20%): >Serves as liaison with College Advancement, Geneseo Foundation, Alumni Relations, and Friends of Milne Library. >Plans, coordinates, and assesses ongoing community engagement, service learning, and internship projects. >Facilitates Library Communications and Marketing Team to develop an effective communication strategy, coordinate marketing, communications, and outreach programs including some events and exhibits.

Assessment and Statistics Officer (15%): >Gathers and manages library's organizational knowledge and business intelligence. >Participates in Assessment Team meetings, assists with library assessment and statistical projects. >Coordinates responses to external requests for statistics. Collaborates with campus offices that collect and disseminate data. >Works closely with Library staff to provide necessary data for their scholarly research activities and grant applications.

Other duties as assigned, as needed. (5%)

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in relevant area, e.g. business, human resources, public administration. 3 years experience providing administrative or program support. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Experienced user of MS Office

Preferred: Master’s degree in relevant area, e.g. MBA, MPA, MLS, Human resources. Candidates with demonstrated experience in project management, assessment, statistics, outreach, and development. Strong commitment to customer service. Excellent problem-solving skills and an aptitude for complex, analytical work with attention to detail and organization. Experience providing administrative support for a college, university or library organization. Familiarity with online organizational and collaboration tools, e.g. wikis, webinar software, Google docs, etc.

Discovery Metadagta Libarian: Cornell University, Ithaca, NY

Cornell University Library is seeking a creative individual to focus on the creation, maintenance, and enrichment of metadata representing Cornell's digital, physical, and virtual collections of resources. In cooperation with other library staff, this newly-defined position will provide metadata management and resource discovery expertise to Cornell while monitoring external developments and changing needs in these areas. This position will focus on metadata maintenance activities, the integration of metadata between systems, and building better relationships between resources aligning with the broader context of Cornell's digital and programmatic needs. To be successful, close collaboration will be essential in working with library staff devoted to acquisitions, batch processing, electronic resources, repositories, information technologies, and public services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manipulate metadata to provide multiple access points for library resources, regardless of location or format.
  • Plan and integrate electronic resources and batch processing work as it relates to cataloging and metadata quality.

Information Literacy and Social Sciences Librarian; Assistant Professor in the University Libraries

The University at Albany Libraries seek a creative, highly motivated, flexible leader to manage the Cataloging Services Department, consisting of two academic faculty librarians, four paraprofessional faculty, and student assistant support. Responsible for providing leadership related to facilitation of access to information in all formats in a highly automated and constantly changing environment. Works closely and collaboratively with the heads of other departments in the division (Acquisitions Services; Database Maintenance, Processing and Bindery; and Library Systems), as well as others throughout the Libraries, to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality user experience, set goals, and establish priorities.

The incumbent will be an experienced leader with a keen sense of the evolving role of research libraries in the digital age and demonstrated knowledge of best practices and current trends in cataloging. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited institution or foreign equivalent

  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience, including experience working with staff of differing skill and educational levels
  • Demonstrated experience in metadata management including authority control, the Anglo-American Cataloging rules, Library of Congress classification, MARC formats, integrated library systems, library automation, and OPAC design
  • Knowledge of evolving standards, trends and issues in bibliographic metadata, digital media and inter-relationships between information systems
  • Familiarity with XML, schema development, and related software

Brooklyn Historical Society invites applications for the position of Director of Library & Archives. The position reports to BHS’ President and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of BHS’ library and archives program. The Director of Library & Archives supervises library and collections staff, including the Special Collection Librarian and Photographic Archivist and various grant-funded full and part time staff. The successful candidate will be a creative, experienced and forward-looking librarian dedicated to serving a diverse range of patrons and supporting BHS mission to connect the past to the present and make the vibrant history of Brooklyn tangible, relevant and meaningful for today's diverse communities, and for generations to come.

The Director is responsible for providing leadership, vision, planning and management for the library, including overseeing staff; developing and maintaining budgets, policies and procedures; planning and managing grant-funded projects; and developing long-range priorities for collection development, management, preservation, and access to the library and archives. The position plays a key role in the senior staff of the larger institution, participating in institutional planning; working with the Director of Development to identify funding opportunities and write grants; and collaborating with education, exhibition and oral history staff on integrating library and archives work with the activities of the institution.

Required Qualifications:

* Masters in Library and Information Science, or equivalent degree, with a specialization in archival studies or special collections.
* Minimum of four years successful experience in special collections and/or archives

ILR Research Librarian, Cornell University

The Catherwood Library seeks qualified candidates for the professional position of ILR Research Librarian. The successful candidate will take the lead on providing research services in the fields of workplace and labor studies including human resources, organizational behavior, international labor, labor economics, and US labor history and law. The position will be part of a new department responsible for providing research, instruction, outreach, and collection development services in the consolidated libraries serving Cornell’s ILR, Hotel Administration, and Management Schools, and will participate collaboratively in the on-going development of the department and services.

The Catherwood Library in the ILR School is the nation’s most comprehensive library for workplace issues, specializing in labor history, human resources, collective bargaining, organizational behavior, and international and comparative labor movements. In 2010, Catherwood consolidated with the Nestlé Hospitality Library and the Management Library to form a single structure serving Cornell’s specialized business and labor Schools. The consolidated structure serves 1805 undergraduates, 1314 graduate students, 143 resident faculty, and extensive distance education, executive education, and extension programs. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Research Coordinator, the ILR Research Librarian is responsible for: leading the provision of research services in workplace and labor studies in Catherwood Library, including providing direct research assistance; developing and maintaining an expertise in workplace and labor studies resources; developing and preparing content for handouts, subject bibliographies, and other publications in print and electronic formats; working closely with department librarians to provide instruction to classes and individuals, implement outreach programs, and contribute to the development of collections; participating in the on-going development of research, instruction, outreach, and collection development department; and establish and maintain activity in professional organizations, library and university committees, and scholarly pursuits. Characteristics: The ILR Research Librarian is an innovative, service-focused professional who is able to approach an essential position in a new structure with an eagerness to collaborate formally and informally with other librarians, archivists, and staff. S/he works well with colleagues, drawing on and contributing to their subject and library expertise, but is also able to work independently. S/he has a strong understanding of standard and traditional library practices but also embraces the change and opportunities that new technologies bring to the field. Requirements: M.L.S. or equivalent graduate degree and at least two years of experience in a library public service. Subject knowledge in an applied social science field. Experience using and teaching others to use library resources, including bibliographic and full-text databases, web resources, etc. Ability to provide on-the-job training and/or guidance to others. Fluent oral and written English language skills. Strong, collaborative problem solving skills. Strong collegial, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills. Strong service ethic and orientation.

Preferred Qualifications: Academic social science library reference and library instruction experience. Specific subject knowledge in workplace or labor studies fields (e.g. human resources, organizational behavior, international labor, labor economics, or US labor history and law). Experience with GIS applications.

Responsibilities: The Research Services Librarian provides extensive reference and research service to the law school and university communities in Anglo-American, international, and foreign law. Service to faculty is a priority, with an active liaison program. This position also carries the title of Lecturer in Law. Job Summary: In a team environment, the Reference and Instructional Services Librarian is responsible for assisting with the overall operation and functions of the Reference Department, the Library Instructional Services, and the Arrigoni Library/Technology Center. Electronic Resources & Digital Scholarship Librarian: SUNY Geneseo, Geneseo, NY

SUNY Geneseo seeks a service-oriented, versatile and dynamic librarian to provide leadership for organizing and accessing digital collections, serials, and providing knowledge base maintenance, licensing, and usage analysis of resources. The Electronic Resources and Digital Scholarship Librarian provides leadership and technical expertise:
• Plays a central role in developing digital collections and the provision of digital scholarship services, including the implementation and operation of tools to support e-research, teaching and learning, scholarly communications, and planning the development of a Digital Media Lab.
• Effectively uses project management skills to work with faculty on projects and to collaborate across the library, CIT, Office of Sponsored Research, and others to provide innovative and effective service to digital scholarship projects.
• Leads, coordinates and manages the examination, review, and disposition of new electronic resource opportunities; oversees the selection, acquisition, payment, and activation of electronic resources including license review and negotiation; and coordinates vendor communications or evaluations, including demos and trials.
• Monitors and maintains the electronic resources budget in consultation with the Head of Technical Services• Manages serials and database evaluations by compiling and analyzing usage data from multiple sources, including ILS and vendor COUNTER reports to make selection and deselection recommendations
• Establishes, maintains and troubleshoots access to electronic resources.
• Catalogs and manages online resources and print serials holdings, including the coordination and design of metadata quality control for all digital projects and collections.
• Recommends priorities, policies, and procedures for the identification, creation, conversion and preservation of digital content.
• Participates in original cataloging of all formats and metadata creation activities in the library;
• Applies current methods of organizing serials, electronic resources, and investigating and applying new methods for organizing information resources using established and emerging bibliographic control mechanisms and metadata standards;
• Develops standards and procedures for authority control work; creates authority records for names, series, subjects and documents authority decisions as needed;
• Additional duties; develops and coordinates usability studies related to digital collections; participates in grant proposal writing and budget planning for digital collections; assists with training and instruction regarding the creation and use of digital collections; keeps essential records and statistics and prepares reports as necessary;
• Participates in the Library’s liaison program, which may include the selection of information resources and instructional activities.


Qualifications:
• Master's degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school or an ALA-approved foreign equivalent;
• Experience with MARC bibliographic and authorities formats and cataloging and classification standards;
• Experience with OCLC Connexion;
• Knowledge of non-MARC metadata schemes and evolving standards;
• Experience with the concepts and software/hardware applications used in organizing and presenting digital information; demonstrated ability to prioritize, plan, coordinate, and implement multiple projects;
• Strong commitment to enhancing service through teamwork and responsiveness to faculty, students, and colleagues;
• Demonstrated problem-solving and workflow-analysis skills, as well as an aptitude for complex, analytical work with attention to detail and organization;
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and project management skills;
• Commitment to providing high-quality public service within a flexible and continually evolving academic library environment;

Preferred:
• Experience with the Ex Libris ALEPH integrated library system;• Experience with MS Office including Access; with an understanding of SQL
• Experience with digital serials, knowledge bases (especially Serials Solutions) and electronic resource management systems;
• A strong commitment to scholarly communication;
• Experience with a journal publishing system, such as OJS
