Digital User Services Librarian : Rutgers University Libraries (RUL) (New Brunswick, NJ)

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Digital User Services Librarian is a new position within RUL and will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of new electronic products and services to enhance our digital users’ experience. The person in this position will take a leadership role in the continued development of digital library resources, ensuring coordination between technical and public services in the implementation and delivery of services. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to evaluating emerging technology products for potential application, overseeing aspects of citation management software integration and support, developing plans for implementation of mobile services, and enhancing the library experience of distance learners. The Digital User Services Librarian will also participate in appropriate public service activities in order to understand the RUL user perspective and needs. This is a tenure-track position within the New Brunswick Libraries Faculty, and will require the development of a research agenda, publication, and professional participation. The position reports to the Associate University Librarian for Research and Instructional Services and interfaces with existing groups, e.g., the User Services Council and the Web Board.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library or information science program with a minimum 3 years library experience in user services with an emphasis on digital services and collections. Knowledge of relevant web technologies. Must be a good communicator and collaborator and be committed to user-centered services.

SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Copyright and Licensing Librarian, a member of the Rutgers University Libraries Faculty, provides leadership and expertise in matters of copyright, licensing, and other intellectual property issues for the Libraries and the university community. The Copyright and Licensing Librarian is responsible for library intellectual property policies and procedures and for advising library personnel on intellectual property issues relating to library collections, services, gifts, and digital projects. The Librarian works with library faculty and staff in public services, collection development, and digital initiatives to develop policy frameworks that facilitate digital initiatives and resource acquisition. The Librarian monitors legislative developments affecting copyright and other intellectual property matters; participates in appropriate library, university, regional, and national committees and programs; and performs other duties as requested and that fall within the scope of the duties of a member of the library faculty. Working closely with the Office of Vice President and General Counsel, the Copyright and Licensing Librarian serves as the university's primary resource on fair use and other copyright issues. The Librarian advises members of the university community about issues related to the works they write or otherwise create and appropriate use of works created by others. The librarian educates faculty, staff, and students about copyright, licensing, and other intellectual property issues through workshops, websites, consultations, etc. This is a tenure-track faculty position, requiring research and publications, and active participation in professional associations. This position reports to the Associate University Librarian for Planning and Organizational Research.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA accredited master's degree in Library and Information Science; demonstrated knowledge of copyright, licensing, and other intellectual property issues within higher education; familiarity with new and traditional modes of scholarly communication; excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; strong service orientation and commitment to the profession; ability to work within a diverse community; and collegial, team-focused, management orientation. Preferred: Master’s degree in Library Science and law degree combination; recent experience with or knowledge of collection development, especially as it relates to digital resources, licensing and other contract issues, and trends in the commercial and scholarly publishing industries would be highly desirable.

Information Literacy Librarian: University of Bridgeport (Bridgeport, CT)

Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, the Instruction and
Information Literacy Librarian will work within a combined Library, IT,
Media Services, and Projects Office Department. The Library utilizes a
state of the art, ExLibris suite of library software, as well as the Datatel
SharePoint Portal, Wimba for Synchronous Learning, and other relevant
technology platforms to facilitate delivery of Information Literacy
Instruction. The incumbent will also lead an ongoing research initiate to
assess user information seeking behavior, analyzing 4 years of data drawn
from our Primo federated library system, for eventual publication.

Working closely with the academic community, the Instruction and Information
Literacy Librarian develops and implements an effective plan for library
instruction and information literacy that is aligned with University
direction, accreditation requirements, and best practices. The incumbent
develops and delivers curriculum and teaching materials to support a broad
range of instructional activities that includes working to embed information
literacy instruction in the curriculum, classroom teaching, and development
of assessment measures. He/she supports all academic programs, including
undergraduate, graduate, continuing and professional studies, including the
health science programs. The emphasis is on using an evidence based
approach.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

.Works closely with senior library management to lead UB information
literacy initiatives within an outcomes assessment model.
.Coordinates with Faculty to produce embedded curriculum content and
assessment tools. This includes provision of material for Blackboard, online
tutorials, other e-learning delivery systems, and assessment systems.
.Delivers information literacy instruction as needed to faculty, students in
workshops and classroom.
.Works on University committees and task teams to represent information
literacy.
.Measures the effectiveness of instruction program and provides management
reports.
.Works closely with Reference Librarians to coordinate activities and
develop consistent student support.
.Works closely with Digital Content Specialist, Library Systems
Administrator, and Projects Office Staff
.Other work related duties as assigned by the library administration.


QUALIFICATIONS:

.Masters Degree in Library or Information Science. 3 years experience in
Information Literacy function in a 4 year Academic or Special Library is
strongly preferred. This is not an entry level position.
.Proficient in Information Literacy concepts (ACRL & Accreditation
Associations), teaching methodologies, and assessment. Experience in
evidence based librarianship (EBL) or medicine (EBM) highly desirable.
.Experienced in curriculum design.
.Demonstrated skills in Web 2.0, Microsoft Office, database services and
Internet searching. Sharepoint Portal experience highly desirable.
.Experience using a Learning Management System preferred.
.Strong interpersonal skills, ability to establish good working
relationships with colleagues and students.
.Excellent communication skills, including speaking to groups. Strong
teaching skills and experience in classroom instruction.
.Demonstrated ability to work in teams, flexibility and able to acquire new

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Long Island University Library, C.W. Post Campus, seeks an Instructional Design Librarian to support student learning by working in partnership with library and teaching faculty to apply learning theories and technology to develop, design, implement, and maintain general and course-specific library instruction materials, including but not limited to online learning objects and instructional modules. The successful candidate will identify the information needs of both on-campus and blended/distance learning students, facilitate the integration and use of library literacy materials in course management systems and other online environments, and assess student learning outcomes. The successful candidate must be able to learn, critically evaluate and troubleshoot new technologies related to online teaching and learning to meet changing user needs, and support and train librarians and staff in the use of such technologies. The librarian will also develop and conduct online and in-person library instruction sessions, and may serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments. Scheduled hours at the reference desk, including some evening and weekend work, are required.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively and closely with the Coordinator of Instruction and the Instructional Technology Librarian to support the teaching and learning initiatives of the library. The Instructional Design Librarian is a tenure-track, faculty status position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited library school and at least three years of public service, including instructional experience, in an academic library. Knowledge of applications and technologies used in higher education instruction, including course management systems. Coursework, degree, or experience in instructional design and/or educational technology, including knowledge of basic instructional design concepts (ADDIE, etc.). Demonstrated interest in scholarly communication initiatives. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and users. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Ability to achieve tenure through effective job performance, service and scholarship.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Additional graduate degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or related field. Demonstrated knowledge of production tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Audacity, Camtasia). Familiarity with ACRL Standards for Information Literacy.

SPECIAL INFORMATION: Preference will be given to a candidate with a second subject Master’s degree or 30 additional graduate credits, and the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends. This is a reopening for a position which was previously advertised as Electronic Resources and Distance Learning Librarian. Research and Instructional Services Librarian: Barnard College, Columbia University

Reporting to the Director of Research and Instructional Services (RIS) at Barnard College, Columbia University, the RIS Librarian will participate in the provision of reference, research, and instructional services to students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the Barnard and Columbia communities. The Librarian will serve as the primary liaison and personal librarian for students and faculty in the Barnard Theatre and Dance Departments and the Film Studies and Music programs and will be responsible for development, evaluation, and management of the media collection, as well as other assigned areas of the general andreference collections. He or she will provide general and specialized reference and research services at the library’s service desk. Will also deliver general and course-related instruction in library and information resources and will develop appropriate online instructional materials and subjects guides as needed. He or she will consult with Columbia University Library colleagues to coordinate the purchase of media
and related resources and also collaborate with colleagues to explore new options for the delivery of media content and then make the appropriate recommendations for purchase and implementation to the Director.

The ideal candidate will have an MLS from an ALA accredited program,
an academic degree, or work experience in a relevant subject area, with 1-3 years of academic library or related experience. Knowledge of or experience in developing and managing a media collection in all analog and digital formats, is necessary. He or she must be able to communicate effectively with faculty and students about the library’s collections and services. Must have an aptitude for or experience in teaching and developing instructional content and documentation and for developing Web-based guides that support the curricular use of the media and other collections. Familiarity with media creation and editing tools is highly desirable. He or she should be user-focused, collaborative, a creative problem solver, and committed to continuous learning.
