Reference and Instructional Services Librarian: Iona College (New Rochelle, NY)

Iona College is seeking a full-time Reference and Instructional Services Librarian.

Job Summary: In a team environment, the Reference and Instructional Services Librarian is responsible for assisting with the overall operation and functions of the Reference Department, the Library Instructional Services, and the Arrigoni Library/Technology Center. This librarian provides research assistance to faculty, students, administrators and staff, teaches formal library instruction classes, and provides in-depth research assistance by appointment. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Libraries for Public Services & Systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assists the Senior Reference Librarian and Instructional Services Librarian with the overall management of the libraries' reference and library instruction services.

2. Teaches formal classes in library instruction.

3. Teaches library patrons to effectively search electronic information resources including the online catalog, research databases, and other information resources.

4. Participates in the Research Assistance Program (RAP). Provides individual library research assistance to patrons.

5. Serves on workgroup for Iona’s Information Literacy program.

6. Shares in the operation of other units, including collection management, and serves as library liaison to various departments.

7. Assists in the supervision, staffing, and scheduling of the Arrigoni Library.

8. Submits statistics and reports as needed.

9. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor, manager and/or department head.

10. Schedule subject to change to accommodate academic calendar and staffing needs to support library services. May work occasional evenings and/or weekends.

Qualifications:

Education: MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited Master’s program.

Experience: Reference and instruction experience in an academic library preferred.

Specialized Skills (preferred) : Knowledge of a range of computer hardware and software commonly used in academic libraries, such as integrated library systems (Voyager), classroom management systems (Blackboard, Faronics), LibGuides, and statistical software (SPSS); comprehensive knowledge of the technology, the practices, and the standards of the individual’s area of responsibility; knowledge and/or experience with assessment tools, such as LibQUAL+.

Adjunct Reference Librarian: Mina Rees Library (CUNY Graduate Center) (New York, NY)

The Mina Rees Library (CUNY Graduate Center) seeks an Adjunct Reference Librarian. The position is available immediately; up to 12 hrs/week; early evenings (some flexibility).

Primary responsibilities include Interlibrary loan, electronic and reference desk services and teaching graduate level workshops. Will also provide some support to collection projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

For Instructor, an MLS from an ALA-accredited program is required. For appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor an additional masters degree (preferably in a Humanities or Social Sciences field) is required. Strong public-service orientation and familiarity with print and electronic information resources and emerging information technologies required. Relevant experience preferred.

Working under the supervision of the University Librarian, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, improving, evaluating and reporting upon university commercial full text, bibliographic and reference database offerings, journals, abstract and indexes and e-books including, but not limited to, access, user satisfaction, cost effectiveness, licenses and contracts, usage metrics and publicity. Minimum qualifications:

  • Web development skills and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with strong attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Successful experience with serials acquisition, claiming, and control systems.
  • Licensing and implementing access to commercial databases.
  • Working knowledge of Open URL linking.
  • Working knowledge of OCLC Serials and Voyager serials.
  • Successful experience managing e-journals, e-books, and other e-resources.
  • Successfully created LibGuides.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies in libraries (e.g. mobile)

Reference & Instruction Librarian (Evening & Weekend): Assistant Professor to Associate Professor Long Island University / Brooklyn Campus Library

This is a tenure-track faculty position which includes extensive instruction and reference responsibilities in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. The Reference & Instruction Librarian (Evening and Weekend) will provide reference services including some weekends and evenings (2:00 pm to 10:00 pm). The successful candidate will have a thorough grounding in traditional library services, the teaching skills necessary to create and deliver a wide range of information literacy instruction sessions, as well as experience in the application of digital and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning. The successful candidate will provide a high level of reference service, teach classes in the Library’s information literacy and curriculum-integrated instruction programs, and demonstrate commitment to user-centered service. The successful candidate will participate in planning, collection development, outcomes assessment, committees and professional development.

Qualifications:

MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution and at least three years’ reference and instructional experience, preferably in an academic library. Strong service orientation. Ability to work collaboratively with teaching and library faculty. Excellent written and oral communication skills. The successful candidate will work with a diverse range of people, will work both independently and in a team environment, and will work some evenings and weekends. Thirty additional graduate credits beyond the MLS (required for assistant professor appointment) or second master’s. Subject specialization in business/public administration preferred.

The Assistant Technical Librarian for Digital Infrastructure is a fulltime, newly created position in the Library that reports to the Assistant Librarian for Technology.

Training/experience: MLS [ALA] or MIS. Knowledge of Windows and Linux (Debian) Server environments, LAN administration and performance monitoring, MySQL, MS SQL, XML, PHP or similar scripting language, ILS (Koha) administration and other library software management systems, CMS (especially Drupal), and CRM. Archival certification (ACA) or ability and willingness to become certified within three years of hire, required. Knowledge of electronic records management, digitization strategies, and digital preservation issues a plus.

Working in collaboration with the IT Support Specialist, the successful candidate will have excellent communication skills in addition to technological abilities as he or she will be providing service and advice to a diverse constituency.

Duties will include:

· Install, maintain, and troubleshoot all server hardware and software

· Deploy and monitor all local and remote backup solutions

· Manage and troubleshoot all databases (backend and frontend)

· Eliminate system redundancies

· Assist in planning for future technology developments

· Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Librarian for Technology or Library Director
